This page exists only to test the design and publishing pipeline. It will be removed before launch. The text below mimics a real project write-up so the typography can be judged with realistic content.
The idea
Electricity in Finland is priced by the hour. Floor heating holds heat for hours, so the house can charge up during the cheapest hours and coast through the expensive ones. The trick is doing it without anyone noticing a cold floor.
- Read tomorrow’s prices from the
sensor.nordpool_kwh_fi_eurentity - Rank the hours and pick the cheapest six
- Never let the room drop below the comfort floor of 20.5 °C
The automation
- alias: Floor heating, cheapest hours triggers: - trigger: time_pattern minutes: 0 conditions: - condition: template value_template: "{{ is_state('binary_sensor.cheap_hour', 'on') }}" actions: - action: climate.set_temperature target: entity_id: climate.floor_living_room data: temperature: 23Results after one winter
| Month | Avg. price | Saved |
|---|---|---|
| December | 14.2 c/kWh | 18 % |
| January | 11.8 c/kWh | 22 % |
The floor never dropped below 21 °C during the test, even during a week of −25 °C.
